Pigeons are endearing — but in established, numerous groups they represent a serious sanitary and heritage problem. In Monaco, on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, in Old Cannes, on the façades of seaside palaces and condominiums, their presence degrades buildings, contaminates terraces, and presents a risk of pathogen transmission (chlamydiosis, salmonellosis, cryptococcosis).
## The hidden cost of pigeons
**Heritage degradation.** Pigeon droppings are strongly acidic. On a limestone façade (Monaco, Antibes), they attack the stone in a few years. On a balcony or terrace, they clog rainwater drainage, causing infiltration and structural damage. A condominium can accumulate €50,000 of damage in under five years.
**Sanitary risk.** Dried droppings become a breathable dust carrying *Chlamydia psittaci*, *Cryptococcus neoformans*, *Salmonella*. Higher risk for immunocompromised people, children, the elderly. Hotel and restaurant terraces must remain spotless.

**1. Stainless spikes.** Most discreet and durable solution. Stainless steel spikes (AISI 304 or marine 316 for the seafront) fixed on cornices, balconies, lampposts, air conditioners. Invisible at 3 metres. Cruelty-free — pigeons are not hurt, they perch elsewhere.
**2. Transparent nets.** For balcony recesses, loggias, double-exposure windows. Fine mesh, fixed with anchors + cables, calibrated tension. Almost invisible from a short distance.
**3. Tensioned wires / stainless cables.** For long cornices and narrow ledges. Staggered cable system, elegant, recommended on listed heritage. Almost invisible.
**4. Visual and electric repellers.** For very high-pressure zones (large-building roofs, shared terraces). Low-voltage electronic system that discourages installation without harm.
**5. Prior cleaning and disinfection.** Before any installation, we clean accumulated droppings (full equipment: suit, P3 mask, gloves), disinfect concerned surfaces, and collect waste in approved channels.
