Seasonal calendar

When to monitor which pest

Pest control is above all a matter of timing. Month-by-month calendar of species to monitor in the Principality of Monaco and on the French Riviera — to act early and save tenfold.

  • Mild winter

    January — February

    Rodents

Rodents seek shelter in heated buildings. An opportune time for a diagnosis and the sealing of entry points before the spring activity peak. [See guide](/nuisibles/rats-souris).

    Clothes moths

Wardrobes and dressing rooms are the critical areas in winter. Installation of pheromone traps and inspection of wool and cashmere storage. [See guide](/nuisibles/mites-textiles).

  • Spring awakening

    March — April

    Asian hornets

Foundresses build primary nests (the size of an orange) at standing height. Destroying a primary nest costs ten times less than a secondary nest in July — act now. [See guide](/nuisibles/frelons-asiatiques).

    Ants

Colonies emerge from winter dormancy. The first wave of Argentine ants appears in the coastal zone, with pharaoh ants in kitchens. [See guide](/nuisibles/fourmis).

    Tiger mosquito

Season preparation: elimination of larval breeding sites (saucers, gutters, drains). The groundwork is won now. [See guide](/nuisibles/moustique-tigre).

  • Start of the tourist season

    May — June

    Bedbugs

Peak importation tied to international tourist flows. Mandatory hotel audit before season opening. Inspection of mattresses, encasements, and training of housekeeping staff. [See guide](/nuisibles/punaises-de-lit).

    Cockroaches

Professional kitchens and dark kitchens: heightened HACCP monitoring ahead of third-party certification audits. [See guide](/nuisibles/cafards-blattes).

    Pigeons

Nesting period: preventative removal of nests still under construction before they become permanent damage. [See guide](/nuisibles/pigeons).

  • Peak season

    July — August

    Hornets (secondary nests)

Secondary nests (the size of a basketball to a beach ball) at height. Intervention with a telescopic pole, in full PPE, sometimes at night. High risk to bees.

    Mosquitoes

Peak activity. Weekly audit of larval breeding sites in co-ownerships and hotels with outdoor areas. [See guide](/nuisibles/moustique-tigre).

    Pantry moths

Long-term stores (flour, pasta, rice) are at risk. Audit of yacht galleys and beach restaurants. [See guide](/nuisibles/mites-alimentaires).

  • End of season

    September — October

    Rodents

Rodents seek to enter for winter. Comprehensive sealing audit, inspection of ducts, and preventative installation of secured bait stations. [See guide](/nuisibles/rats-souris).

    Hornets (dismantling)

Dismantling of secondary nests at the close of activity. Future foundresses are leaving — this is the right moment.

    Cockroaches

As temperatures fall, cockroaches move back into heated areas. Heightened monitoring of kitchens and yacht crew messes. [See guide](/nuisibles/cafards-blattes).

  • Wintering

    November — December

    Annual audit

Review of the past year, adjustment of the 360° contract, installation of new sentinel traps, and updating of the risk mapping.

    Wood treatment

An ideal period for curative wood-borer treatments: no occupancy, stable temperatures, dry timber. [See guide](/nuisibles/capricornes-vrillettes).

    Hotel turnover disinfection

Between seasons, comprehensive disinfection of rooms, suites and communal areas. Preparation for quality audits.
