Le Vinaigrier borders a nature park in the east of Nice, where residential housing nestles within a dense landscape of pine woods and scrubland. Garden rodents, wood mice and rats, exploit hedges, compost heaps and stone shelters, with increased pressure in autumn when the cold brings them closer to dwellings. Pine processionary caterpillars descend from their silken nests from late winter to spring, presenting an urticating risk to people and pets. Local wildlife, drawn to the gardens on the edge of the massif, regularly crosses the vegetal screens and tests fences and water points. The density of vegetation and the alternation of cool and sunlit zones sustain a steady biological activity for much of the year.
